A Bright New Look for a Chesapeake Bay Marina
Outdoor shade structures work hard, especially in busy commercial waterfront environments. Over time, constant exposure to the sun, wind, rain, and coastal weather can take a toll on even the most durable shade sails.
Recently, our team at Shade Sail Systems completed a custom shade sail replacement at Herrington Harbour South, a marina resort located on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
The existing shade sail had become worn and damaged, so it was time to give this popular outdoor area a fresh new look — and the replacement certainly stands out!
Replacing a Worn and Damaged Shade Sail
Commercial shade sails are designed to spend their lives outdoors, providing valuable shade season after season. But like any outdoor fabric structure, years of exposure to the elements can eventually lead to wear and damage.
At Herrington Harbour South, the existing sail had reached the point where replacement was the best solution.
Rather than replacing the entire shade structure, we created a custom replacement shade sail designed specifically for the existing installation.
The result is a fresh, functional shade solution with one very noticeable difference — a fantastic bright orange finish!
A Pop of Color by the Chesapeake Bay
Why should commercial shade only be functional?
The new bright orange shade sail adds an eye-catching pop of color to the marina while providing a comfortable shaded area for visitors to enjoy.
In a commercial environment, color can become part of the overall experience. A bold shade sail can create a focal point, complement a brand or property, and help make an outdoor space feel more welcoming.
For Herrington Harbour South, the vibrant orange looks right at home against the waterfront surroundings.
Custom-Made Right Here on Maryland’s Eastern Shore
At Shade Sail Systems, we’re proud to create custom shade solutions right here on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Every commercial shade project is different. The size and shape of the space, existing attachment points, sun exposure, wind conditions, and how the area is used all play a role in determining the right solution.
For this project, the replacement shade sail was custom-made to fit the existing structure, restoring the shade coverage the area needed while completely refreshing its appearance.
Is It Time to Replace Your Commercial Shade Sail?
Commercial shade sails are exposed to the elements year after year, and waterfront environments can be particularly demanding.
Fading, fraying, tears, damaged fabric, weakened areas, or problems maintaining the correct tension can all be signs that your existing shade sail needs attention.
Replacing a worn shade sail can be a great way to extend the life of an existing shade structure without starting over with an entirely new installation.

Does Your Commercial Property Need Shade?
Take a look at your existing shade structures. Are the sails beginning to look worn, faded, or damaged? Or do you have an outdoor area that could benefit from additional shade?
A custom shade sail can provide valuable protection while also transforming the look and feel of a commercial outdoor space.
The new bright orange sail at Herrington Harbour South is a great example of how a replacement can bring new life — and a serious pop of color — to an existing space.
